My name is Marvin Robinson. I was born and raised in Beckley, West Virginia. I have been here all of my life. I am the son of Robert Robinson and the late Zelda Robinson. My mother was a homemaker and my father was the Director of the Board of Public Works for over 60 years. He loved working in the City of Beckley.
I attended elementary, junior high, and high school here in Beckley. After graduation from high school, I started in the family business which consisted of transportation and construction. Thereafter, I began my studies at the former Beckley College and received a degree in Business Administration. My additional education consists of the following:
- Master’s Degree in Leadership studies (Marshall University)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice (Bluefield State)
- Numerous specialized schools and studies throughout my law enforcement and military career.
I love the citizens of Beckley. I had several opportunities to leave Beckley to make a better living. But, I elected to remain here to make a difference.
Hereinafter, I began working for the Beckley Police department where I worked in every division from road patrol, detective bureau, to chief of narcotics. While employed at the police department, I joined the United States Army Reserves. I was a tactical radio repairman and operator. Thereafter, I was deployed to South West Asia as a combat military policeman. After returning home, I attended an advanced military school to become a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear soldier. Over the course of several years of intense training in the chemical core, I was awarded my instructor/writer certifications and credentials to teach and certify the United States Army chemical soldiers.
One of my specialized training was in biological warfare. We trained military physicians, nurses and military medical personnel on how to construct field hospitals and evaluate casualties. We also trained in how to work in a biological, chemical and nuclear environment and survive in that environment. I have trained soldiers in chemical and biological agents and how to properly wear their Personal Protection Equipment without causing further contamination.
Due to my education, employment, and military experiences, I would be an outstanding Mayor for the city of Beckley. I would like to continue to work for the city of Beckley in which I would be dedicated to the citizens.
